Siemens launches new gas turbine for oil and gas uses

Using the combined expertise from its acquisitions of Dresser-Rand and Rolls-Royce Energy business, Siemens launches the latest evolution of its gas turbine portfolio – the SGT-A35 RB. The unit addresses the need for more cost-effective solutions for the offshore oil and gas industry by increasing the power density of the topside power generating equipment, thus reducing the required space claim. The lightweight, aeroderivative gas turbine can generate up to 38 megawatts (MW) and is integrated into a compact, lightweight Dresser-Rand package, which is up to 30 percent smaller and lighter than Industrial RB211 predecessors.

Deepwater multistage fracturing service saves millions of dollars

Baker Hughes' DEEPFRAC deepwater multistage fracturing service can save operators hundreds of millions of dollars in offshore developments through unprecedented efficiency gains across the completion phase. Using multiposition sleeves and patented flowback control technology, the service accelerates or eliminates certain steps of conventional multizone completion operations and enables rapid stimulation of 20+ stages. This translates into significantly greater reservoir contact, with an average OPEX savings of USD$30 to $40 million per well.

Dresser-Rand supplies compressor trains for deepwater BP project

The Dresser-Rand business, part of Siemens Power and Gas Division, received an order from BP to provide rotating equipment for the Mad Dog 2 project in the deepwater Gulf of Mexico. The scope of supply comprises two DATUM compressor trains driven by Siemens electric motors for export gas service. The equipment is scheduled to ship in 2018, with oil production of the platform expected to begin late in 2021.

Companies combine expertise on challenging engineering and hardware support services

Trendsetter Engineering and Add Energy have combined expertise to provide engineering and hardware support services to the industry’s most challenging problems. The companies have recently been awarded a contract to supply engineering expertise and access to Trendsetter’s patented Relief Well Injection Spool (RWIS) in support of an operators’ drilling campaign on a newly sanctioned field development.

Oil recovery system powered by wind shows potential in testing

The DNV GL-led joint industry project, WIN WIN (WINd powered Water INjection), has completed its first phase and determined that wind power could be used to power offshore water injection. The project is currently moving into its second phase, which includes refining and testing the electrical systems, and investigating possibilities for broader applications. The project consists of four partners: DNV GL, ExxonMobil and ENI Norge – all part of the first phase – and the Norwegian Research Council – a new participant for this second phase.

GE, Noble partner on Digital Rig data analytics solution

GE and Noble Corporation jointly announced a partnership to collaborate on the Digital Rig solution, enabling data-driven operational efficiency by using data analytics, with the target of a 20 percent reduction in operational expenditure across the rigs.

Within the agreement, GE will initially deploy its latest marine Asset Performance Management (APM) system, powered by Predix*, on four of Noble’s drilling rigs. The partnership will allow data-driven operations intelligence to provide broad-ranging benefits for the selected assets on the program’s rigs:
  • • Enhanced drilling process efficiency—Foresight visibility of equipment anomalies and drilling process deviations to reduce operational disruptions and enhance performance consistency.
  • • Shift to predictive maintenance—Redefine maintenance strategies with a focus on predictive maintenance to achieve long-term, sustainable opex reductions across the fleet.
  • • Reduction of third-party service costs—Anytime, anywhere rig visibility and insights that leverage the one-to-many impact of shore-based experts to reduce third-party service costs.

Unique bend restrictor earns API 17L1 certification

Trelleborg’s offshore operation in Skelmersdale in the U.K. has been certified for the design of its Bend Restrictor Reaction Flange under the American Petroleum Institute’s specification for flexible pipe ancillary equipment (API 17L1 Ed. 1 2013). Having acquired the design review certification for the standard bend restrictor element in 2016, Trelleborg’s complete bend restrictor product is now API 17L1 certified.

Collaboration leads to first Distributed Buoyancy Module for installation by ROV

To meet customer demands, Trelleborg’s offshore operation collaborated with SubC Partner to design, manufacture and test a Distributed Buoyancy Module (DBM) for installation by a Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) on to an FPSO’s 12 inch production riser in a steep wave configuration. By having an ROV installable DBM, Trelleborg and SubC Partner were able to successfully execute a world first offshore project, which succeeded in replacing buoyancy modules on a live riser, without shutting oil production.

Largest ever Victrex Peek-based structure designed to deliver subsea pumping relability in extreme subsea oil & gas operations

To reduce exploration and production costs and risks in subsea oil and gas systems, Magma Global Limited has developed flexible m-pipe technology. Their latest lightweight continuous pipe is both the largest and longest Victrex PEEK-based structure ever, achieved with the support and expertise of Victrex. It can be deployed to depths of 10,000 feet (3,000 meters) and handle pressures of up to 15 ksi (103MPa). The composite pipe combines PEEK, high-grade carbon fibre and S-2 Glass fibres to form a reliable subsea intervention line that meets the demand for a hydraulic pumping system that can handle high pressures and high flow rates.

Trelleborg identifies sealing materials to extend seal life in high fire risk oil & gas hydraulic applications

Due to the different chemical makeup of HFC and HLP fluids, sealing materials proven and traditionally used with HLP fluids, though effective in HFC applications, do not necessarily provide effective performance or length of life in HFCmedia. In tests, Trelleborg Sealing Solutions has identified sealing materials that offer extended life in HFC applications.

LNG transfer hose by Trelleborg receives key accreditation

Trelleborg’s fluid handling operation, which supplies flexible bonded hoses for the crude oil, chemicals and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) offshore industries, has been awarded the prestigious EN1474-2 accreditation following the development of a revolutionary hose design for use in the transfer of LNG between floating terminals and carriers. It is the first product of its kind in the world to receive this accreditation.

Trelleborg receives ISO 29001 oil & gas accreditation

The oil and gas industry is by nature one of the most challenging environments in the world, so a high level of business integrity is critical to safely keep operations up and running. As a result of its commitment to continuous improvement in the industry, Trelleborg’s offshore operation in England has been awarded an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) / Technical Specification (TS) 29001:2011 certification.

Research Reveals Missing Value Link In Offshore Industry

A recent survey conducted by Trelleborg’s offshore operation paints a positive industry outlook with decision makers taking a long term ‘value-add’ view. Original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) rated product quality, responsiveness and skills above cost as the most important supplier attributes. In fact, only 4% cited cost as a primary driver in determining preferred partners. However, there is a missing value link, as in practice cost savings appear to be taking priority.
