Antistatic coating for hazardous area enclosures

Intertec has launched an advance in antistatic surface coating treatment for its GRP (glassfiber reinforced polyester) outdoor enclosures. Developed specially for Intertec by the chemical specialist BÜFA, the new nanotechnology-based coating also boosts protection against damage from ultraviolet radiation - helping to achieve extended maintenance-free lifecycles of field-based control and instrumentation equipment in processing industries such as oil, gas, chemicals and petrochemicals. Intertec's weathering tests in an environmental test chamber have demonstrated that the new coating can withstand extended exposure to very high UV levels - providing a new level of protection particularly for GRP field enclosures destined for environments such as deserts, the tropics or the Arctic.

Bearings boost turboexpander performance and longevity

Turboexpanders are the heart of cryogenic process cycles everywhere, including air separation and gas liquefaction systems. At the same time, the component that is critical to those processes and is essential to trouble-free system efficiency is the bearing that supports the shaft linking a turboexpander’s barbell-shaped expansion and compression wheel assembly.

Building up resources: fabric structures provide cover for massive Manitoba project

The world’s need for energy is overwhelming, and fulfilling that need is obviously far from easy. It’s no wonder that so many different energy supplies – minerals, oil, solar, wind, water – are routinely tapped into, as no single source would be capable of sustaining our lives as we know them. Whether it involves a long-established resource or a brand-new technology, there almost always is significant effort, and financial investment, required to extract and utilize a given energy pipeline.

Weld purge monitor designed for on-site conditions

Welders often face difficulties when working under the conditions experienced on-site. When welding critical joints on-site the challenges might come from exposure to extremes of heat and cold, harmful sand and dust and even hazardous fumes. Therefore using an expensive Weld Purge Monitor in such conditions may not always be ideal.

Attitudes shifting in purchasing approach for oil companies

The price of products and services trails other significant factors, such as value, life cycle, and durability as a purchase priority, according to a recent independent survey of oil and gas professionals making procurement decisions, conducted on behalf of Trelleborg’s oil and marine operation. Despite challenging times for the industry, when asked to rank different factors affecting their decision to purchase an oil hose, respondents listed ‘durability and life cycle’ as ‘vital’ over 80% of the time. The next most ‘vital’ factors were ‘aftersales support and service’, and ‘ease of installation’ at 32% and 28% respectively.

Industry looks for safer approach to reducing dropped object dangers

Natural disasters such as raging winds and seas may appear to create the greatest risks to offshore oil platforms and gas rigs, however safety related and life threatening accidents continue to plague operations and raise significant concerns with corporate leaders. It’s the growing number of reportable incidents and near misses that occur when overhead objects – equipment and tools – drop from hundreds of feet above a work area due to improper fastening and unreliable means of securing.

C rail and light crane systems designed for explosion and hazardous areas

J D Neuhaus, world leader in air hoists, cranes, trolleys and monorail hoists, is now introducing a range of C rail and light crane systems for operation with the company’s established and successful mini air hoist range. Both the C rail/suspension tracks and the light crane systems are rated for use in explosion and hazardous dust-laden areas up to ATEX Zone 2, 22.

Rupture disk miniaturization meets industry challenges

For more than 85 years, the rupture disk has served as an effective passive safety mechanism to protect against overpressure or potentially damaging vacuum conditions in oil and gas storage tanks and other enclosed vessels.  However, as these pressure relief devices become increasingly miniaturized to sizes as small as 1/8” to meet the demands of a new generation of smaller, lighter applications, the industry is running squarely into design and raw material challenges that often require reengineering the product itself.

Video Monitoring Simplifies Site Surveillance Needs

The remote nature of oil and gas operations has generated a range of devices that detect, track and transmit information at wellheads and pipelines to offices sometimes thousands of kilometres away. Advances in remote-monitoring instrumentation have increased safety and reliability of equipment, and also cut down on in-person visits, significantly lowering operational costs.

Portable deep marking system

This portable deep marking system can be used to produce permanent marking at unrivalled depths. Remarkably quiet in operation, this equipment is notable for its flexibility and ease of use, and all that is required for operation is a standard electrical supply (between 90 and 230 V). Whether being used on tubes or a flat surface, users need only position it on the part, without the need for any clamping or positioning tools. It is designed for use on pipes of all kinds (oil, gas, mining), lifting equipment (pallet trucks, forklift trucks), works vehicles, boatbuilding, or structural steelwork.   Technifor

Capturx works as a natural interface into Microsoft Office, SharePoint, ArcGIS and PDF, through the use of digital pens. It enables paper forms, maps and designs to be filled out or marked up with digital pens, which digitize the handwriting and integrate the data directly into software applications.

Remote monitoring technology

Ideal for oil and gas companies needing to remotely monitor high-tech facilities and equipment, IndigoVision’s complete IP video security technology allows stations to be centrally monitored from a single control room using specialized software. This extensive security surveillance is achieved through the use of a  hybrid IP network consisting of satellite, fibre optic and wireless links. Indigo’s technology also uses a unique framerate control, so that when there is no motion detected at a given site, it reduces the amount of bandwidth needed.

Video surveillance system

Originally developed for a major oil and gas company to monitor remote wells, the Longwatch XLP Low Power Video Surveillance System is powered by solar cells and batteries. The system hibernates in a low-power standby mode until an external sensor, such as a motion detector or intrusion alarm, or a command from a central control room sends it a signal to “wake up”.
