Mobile incinerator destroys PCBs on site

Fralma’s i n c i n -erator is a small mobile unit that can completely destroy PCB oils right at any storage site with an elimination efficiency rate of 99.9 percent. The mobile incinerator exceeds global environmental regulations unattained so far by permanent incinerators, according to the company. Because of its capability to destroy at storage sites, transportation of PCBs is no longer required, thus eliminating all risk factors and costs associated with such hazardous materials. The destruction capacity of the mobile incinerator unit is one metric ton per day minimum. Other advantages: Burns low to very high PCB oil concentrations; fast incineration; no residue accumulation; real-time gas exhaust analysis; operational security; no pollution; eliminates all soil, water and air contamination risk.

Skimming Of Fracking Wastewater Cuts Hydrocarbon Contamination

A tube-based oil skimming system in place next to a frac water pond, above. Tubebased skimmers gather oil and other materials from the water; those materials are then stripped from the tube within the system and recovered.

The growth of hydraulic fracturing operations across North America is undeniable. With a vast amount of natural gas captured in giant shale plays beneath the U.S. and Canada, fracturing has become a byword in the industry.

Detect petroleum spills in the subsurface

Detect petroleum spills in the subsurface

Dakota Technologies offers the UVOST, a direct-push delivered sensor that allows rapid screening of most petroleum-based light non-aqueous phase liquids (LNAPLs). This tool uses laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) technology to immediately detect sub-surface contamination without having to draw samples or wait for lab results.
The UVOST responds exclusively to source term NAPL, free of interference from dissolved phase hydrocarbons, and it is ideal for detecting fuels, lubricants, and crude oils. The system is designed for use with all direct-push platforms such as Geoprobe, AMS PowerProbe, and cone penetrometers.
When deployed, the UVOST’s probe uses ultra-violet laser light and a sapphire-windowed sensor to detect the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) that are found in petroleum LNAPL. As the probe is driven into the ground, the LNAPL’s fluorescence signal is sent through a fiber-optic cable to a detector and logged by a laptop computer, so results can be seen in real time, and on-site personnel can begin determining an ideal location for the next probing location. In a typical day 250 to 500 feet of continuous logging can be performed.
For each hole the UVOST generates a detailed, colorized log that shows the presence of PAH LNAPL versus depth. The high-resolution electronic logs can be easily incorporated into three-dimensional conceptual site models, which are used to help estimate costs and create a plan for removal of the contaminants.

Emergency response team from pump company fights Gulf spill

Thompson Pumps equipment works to clean up the Gulf oil spill.

Within a few days of the incident on the Deepwater Horizon, Thompson Pump Company mobilized their Emergency Response Team (ERT) to provide pumping equipment, supplies, manpower and a wealth of tactical knowledge to areas devastated by the Gulf of Mexico oil spill.
Once the extent and location of the potential damages were ascertained, Thompson Pump began supplying pumps and equipment throughout areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida currently or imminently impacted by the oil spill. Thompson’s ERT is currently skimming in both deep and shallow waters throughout the Gulf as well as in rivers and streams in the bayous and marshes in order to help minimize the devastation. Thompson Pump is slated to have as many as one hundred pumps, along with hoses and specialized skimming devices, to facilitate oil containment, recovery and transfer.
Thompson Pump branch locations in Hammond, La., Jackson, Miss., Pass Christian, Miss., Pensacola, Fla., and Panama City, Fla. are all directly involved with this project. These locations, along with the aid of the Thompson Pump nationwide network of branches, are providing equipment, service and support to aid in the environmental restoration efforts.
“Although this challenge is significant and extensive, Thompson Pump has the experience and equipment necessary to assist in the long-term restoration of our waters and our shoreline,” says Bill Thompson, President of Thompson Pump. “We are allocating enormous resources to attack this problem with the intention of enabling the citizens in the affected areas to resume their normal lives as quickly as possible.”
Thompson Pump is working closely with contractors who are tasked with various areas of clean-up responsibilities.
A 40-year veteran in disaster relief, Thompson Pump has facilitated numerous cleanup efforts over the years, including the Exxon Valdez oil spill of 1989. Members of the specialized Emergency Response Team are trained to respond quickly and effectively to major catastrophes such as the Deepwater Horizon oil spill crisis.

Eco-friendly hydraulic fluid

Power Flo lowers corporate liability concerns for wildlife, vegetation, waterways as well as a safer work environment for employees due to its fire resistance. Oxidization is greatly reduced, which is a large problem with hydraulic applications. Power Flo will also last three to four times longer than typical hydraulic fluid. Forsythe developed Power Flo EcoLogo-approved hydraulic fluid as the environmental solution to replace conventional mineral oil or vegetable oil-based hydraulic fluids. It is used in applications where hydraulic piping may rupture and spray, leaking hydraulic fluid into sensitive environments. Power Flo is also fire retardant and readily biodegradable, protecting fish and fowl from oily slicks.

SOIL MOISTURE MONITORING IN LOAM CONDITIONS

SOIL MOISTURE MONITORING IN LOAM CONDITIONS

Stevens Water Monitoring Systems’ Hydra Probe soil moisture sensor now comes with a new loam setting feature that covers more of the soil triangle spectrum. Loam is a term used to describe a soil that contains mixtures of sand, silt and clay. The new firmware calibration model is based on the work of Mark Seyfried from the USDA-ARS and Keren Humes from the University of Idaho. The new loam setting is a calibration model now programmed into the Hydra Probe that was determined from a variety of different soils taken from different depths. This new calibration curve will make the Hydra Probe even more accurate over a wider range of soil types.
