iKey, a designer and manufacturer of rugged industrial peripherals, is combining the protection of intrinsic safety with the convenience of wireless in the DW-5K-IS and BT-87-TP-IS keyboards.

These will be the first-known, completely sealed, instrinsically safe (IS) wireless keyboards on the market. The products are Factory Mutual (FM)-approved to ensure that they meet the requirements for operation in hazardous locations. Each of iKey’s IS products is FM-approved for Class I, II, and III, Division I, Groups C, D, E, F and G. “The integration effort for cables in hazardous locations can be significant,” said Pete Fuselier, engineering manager at iKey. “Our intrinsically safe, wireless products completely eliminate the cable, the bulkhead connectors and the barriers that are normally required for IS keyboard products, while maintaining the characteristics necessary for intrinsic safety.” Both of iKey’s wireless IS keyboards have a 30-foot RF range. They are built with a sealed, industrial silicone rubber keypad and a rugged ABS polycarbonate case. Each of the keyboards meets NEMA 4X specifications, with the ability to withstand dirty, wet and corrosive environments.
