Watch: 1920s-era Permian oil derrick gets new life with Petroleum Museum

The Permian Basin has been central to the U.S. oil and gas industry for many decades, as evidenced by old photos of steel derricks standing by the dozens over the landscape. Those derricks often stood abandoned for years after drilling was complete. 

Here's a video on how the Petroleum Museum, based in Midland, Texas, preserved a piece of this industry history - a recovered, restored and rebuilt steel derrick from the 1920s.
