Rig report: Canadian market bumps up slightly again for the week
Drill rig operations were up slightly in both the Canadian and U.S. markets this past week, continuing a generally positive trend north of the border, according to the weekly Baker Hughes rig report.
Canadian rigs were up by 8 from last week to 162. Oil rigs were up 1 to 96, while gas rigs rose 6 to 65 and one miscellaneous rig started up. The current total is up 91 rigs from last year's count of 71 during this time frame.
Meanwhile, in the U.S., the industry added nine rigs from last week, rising to 521 in operation. Oil rigs added 10 to 421, gas rigs dropped one to 99, and miscellaneous rigs remained at 1. The American rig count is almost exactly double last year's count of 261; oil rigs are up 238, gas rigs are up 24 and miscellaneous down two.
Offshore, the U.S. rig count is up four to 10, down 4 year over year.
