Wireless MeshGuard monitors

RAE Systems Inc. introduced three enhancements to its MeshGuard, wireless, toxic-gas monitoring system: The MeshGuard LEL provides flammability, or “lower explosive limit” monitoring for methane and other flammable drilling and oil and gas exploration gases.

RAE Systems introduces the ToxiRAE 3 family of single-gas monitors and the AutoRAE Lite bump test and calibration station. ToxiRAE 3 features a stainless-steel front cover to withstand harsh environments and is currently available in three models: hydrogen sulphide and high- and low-range carbon monoxide. The AutoRAE Lite bump test and calibration station work together with the ToxiRAE 3 to quickly and easily check for proper alarm levels and to calibrate as required. All three ToxiRAE 3 monitors have end-user configurable operating modes as either “operating days remaining” or “gas concentration” display mode.

Photoionization detector for compound gas monitoring

The Ultra-RAE 3000 is a next-generation photoioniza-tion detector (PID) for compound-specific gas monitoring. The Ultra-RAE 3000 makes use of proprietary pre-filter tubes to measure specific gases such as benzene and butadiene. It is wire-lessly enabled, making it compatible with the industry-standard AreaRAE network for remote data measurement and collection. The UltraRAE 3000 uses the same detection technology as the ppbRAE 3000, with the ability to measure toxic compounds below 50 parts per billion (ppb). The UltraRAE 3000 is intended for use in many industrial environments including confined space entry, pre-screening during refineryand plant maintenance, hazardous material response, marine spill response, and refinery down-stream monitoring.

MeshGuard wireless mesh radio gas detection for hydrogen sulphide and carbon monoxide

Introducing MeshGuard, a rugged single-sensor, battery-powered toxic gas detector integrated with a wireless mesh radio modem for detecting hazardous levels of hydrogen sulphide (H2S) or carbon monoxide (CO). The monitoring units are designed to operate in the full temperature range of -40 degrees to 122 degrees F or -40 degrees to +50 degrees C.

Toxic gas monitors ensure rapid response time

These toxic gas monitors carry U.S., Canadian, and European safety certificates for use in hazardous environments in the oil, gas production, refining, steel and first responder markets. “The AutoRAE Lite bump test and calibration station work together with the ToxiRAE 3 to quickly and easily check for proper alarm levels and to calibrate as required,” said Thomas Negre, director of instrumentation products for RAE Systems. “The AutoRAE Lite will also be a favour-ite product for large corporate users who want to keep records of all calibration and alarm data.” All three ToxiRAE 3 monitors have end-user configurable operating-modes as either “operating days remaining” or “gas concentration” display mode. The detectors feature multi-phase alarms (vibration, 95dB siren and flashing light) for Short Term Exposure Limit (STEL), Time Weighted Average (TWA) exposure and high/low alarms. The ToxiRAE 3 is designed to be used continuously in environments with temperatures ranging from 20 to +60 degrees C ( 4 to +140 degrees F) and has an IP67 waterproof rating.

WIRELESS GAS DETECTION

RAE Systems delivered a suite of custom wireless gas detection systems and over 150 handheld QRAE II 4-gas monitors to fully protect the workers on eight mobile, oil drilling and exploration rigs at PetroChina’s Changqing Oil Field operation in Shanxi Province in Northwest China. This system was developed at the request of PetroChina after the earlier successful deployment of fixed systems.

The QRAE II is designed and certified for use in hazardous environments including oil refineries and petrochemical plants. “The QRAE II is the first product to use our patented, lead free, RoHS compliant, next generation, longer life, solid polymer oxygen sensor,” said Thomas Negre, RAE Systems’ Global Product Director for Instrumentation Products. “This is a global product that supports eight languages and three character sets. It has been designed and tested to have the best EMI/RFI noise immunity in the industry to prevent interference from cell phones and handheld walkie-talkies.”
